We invite you to visit Salem Lutheran Homes, a retirement community located in the scenic Danish Village of Elk Horn, Iowa.  We offer 24 hour skilled nursing and Alzheimer's care and have a comprehensive professional team equipped to handle changing health care needs.

Salem began as a vision for local Pastor Anders Hansen who could see that there was a need to care for the aging members of this area.  He dreamt of a place where they would enjoy Life with Christian  Dignity.  That dream began in 1932 and has been the philosophy that Salem lives by ever since.

Salem Lutheran Homes is an affiliate of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America and the Evangelical Lutheran Good Samaritan Society.

Our facility offers professional nursing care in an atmosphere of comfort, compassion, and dignity.

Residents have the opportunity to socialize and be actively involved in our programs which include individualized approaches to activities of daily living, tailored to each resident and balanced with monitored recreational and social events.  Life enrichment activities include music, exercise, daily Chapel Services, Sunday Worship Services,  Bible Study, Hymn Sings, games, reminisce, intergenerational programs, outings, crafts, discussion groups,  and a variety of special programs that are offered by many community groups who visit and provide entertainment.
