Updates for SecureIT Subscribers
SecureIT will be performing an update for customers using SecureIT. It began on Friday, April 4th and is basically a silent update. If the customer has their computer turned on, it will automatically update their SecureIT and ask them to reboot. If they have their computer on but are away from it and there is no activity for 5 minutes, it will automatically reboot. If they are dial-up customers, a CD will be mailed directly to them from SecureIT to take care of the update.
SecureIT will be gradually updating all customers using a staged-roll out and should be complete by the end of the week. The only physical sign you will see is the green padlock will now be a red cross...but it will still be named SecureIT when your cursor hovers over the icon.
Digital TV Transition
NO NEW TV REQUIRED!! Please note that all METC cable television subscribers will not need to update their current television sets due to the digital technology that will come into effect in February 2009. Cellular News
Give your old cell phone new life!
METC is happy to be part of a new recycle program for your old cellular phones. We will donate your working phones with current software to the local Family Crisis Center in Atlantic. Your unused equipment can give added security to many families.
If your phone is non-working, don’t give it a toss! We have an outlet for those also! METC has joined a program where we are reimbursed for non-working phones and batteries. Funds collected from this program are also donated to the Family Crisis Center. Next time you upgrade your phone, think twice about who you might help!
Electronic Bill Pay & Presentment Now Available
Marne & Elk Horn Telephone Company now offers Online Bill Presentment and additional options for making payments. Have an METC billing statement in hand to sign up and check out the Online Electronic Payment Center. We also have a link in the right-hand column.
Local Connection Newsletter
The newsletter library has been updated and the most recent issues are now available on-line. If you've misplaced your copy or offered it up for recycling, you can read it again, here
SPAM Filtering Service
A supplementary page has been posted here that offers additional comments about the service. Assuming your filter settings are set to the most aggressive, messages that have slipped through the system can be sent back to Postini and added to their catalog of "spam", hopefully, improving the efficacy of the system in ranking future emails.
Once you've been added to the service, you will receive a Welcome email providing you with a link to your "message center" and a temporary password. The "message center" will hold messages judged SPAM in a quarantine. You will be able to review for "false positives" and subsequently delete or deliver to your mailbox. Please remember to save your temporary password, OR, change to your regular password when you access your Message Center.
You will also have options to customize the SPAM filtering aggressiveness level, add "approved senders" and "blocked senders".
Messages will be automatically deleted from your "message center" after 14-days.
We HOPE that this will be more effective than our previous filtering program, allowing significantly better end-user customization. You will receive a daily email summarizing the messages that have been added to your Message Center Quarantine and provided a link for delivery or access to your Message Center.
