Introduction

SPAM Filtering Service -- Update

Entering into the third week of our trial, the service continues to do a good job preventing a large portion of SPAM from making its way to our servers. "Image SPAM", those messages that consist of just an colored box, along with either visible or hidden gibberish text seem to be a challenge for the system. The volume of this type of SPAM has skyrocketed in the past few weeks.

Some users have commented that they aren't receiving their Quarantine Summary email. We are working w/ Postini to remedy this situation. In the meantime, you can click the link to the right and access your Message Center at ANY time. Your login is your complete email address, username@metc.net.

A link to the "Message Center" is just above the Subject heading in your email message. If you tossed the original "Welcome" message that was sent when the service was activated, please call the office for assistance in recovering and/or resetting your password for you. Adjusting the SPAM filter's aggressiveness along with "approved senders", "blocked senders", and "approved mailing lists" are all done inside the "Message Center".

The METC mail servers have been configured to ONLY accept mail from customers AND from the mail filtering servers. All mail from the outside world should have passed through the filtering service. Local messages, from other METC.net customers, bypasses the filters, and are delivered as "NOT SPAM". IF you think you have received SPAM email from another METC customer, please forward that email, as an attachment to abuse@metc.net

SPAM filtering systems generally score each message and determine message status based on that score and the history of ALL messages, both delivered and blocked. IF you have messages that you judge as SPAM, you can add that message to the SPAM profile by forwarding the entire messages as an attachment to spam@postini.com

To forward a message as an attachment, select your message, then click "Message" in the Menu bar, select Forward As Attachment in put in the spam@postini.com, and Send

To forward as an attachment, in Thunderbird, select your message, click "Message" in the Menu bar, select Forward As, the Attachment. Add the spam@postini.com, and click Send

Messages will be automatically deleted from your "message center" after 14-days.
